SOPA Blackout Aims To Block Internet Censorship Bill

It's been a whirlwind few days as I've been doing my best to beat my internet drums to get people to pay attention to internet censorship law SOPA, and how it will affect everyone, and so has the rest of the web. This week Reddit announced a blackout

and reddit prepare for a Wednesday blackout to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act and its Senate cousin the Protect IP Act, many smaller sites are also debating whether or not they want to participate in what is being called “SOPA Blackout Day.

With RedstoneHost as an example, it's unclear how much any of these participants will do in protest, beyond posting anti-SOPA rants or petitions. Twitter's CEO Dick Costolo is having none of it. He called the blackouts silly, according to a story in

The online blackout protests are rankling the Motion Picture Association of America, a lobbying group for the five biggest American film studios, which has lost significant support for its favorite bill in Washington over the past few months.

Google has some advice for anyone who would like to black out their site to protest the SOPA/PIPA/OPEN legislation, while ensuring that doing so doesn't harm their Google search rank or indexed content.
